HEXAD DEFENCE
A convention devised by CHARLES R. GREENWOOD & JIM STAMBRIDGE
This is a convention for overcalling either (i) an opening bid of 1No Trump
or (ii) an opening bid of an ARTIFICIAL 1 or 1.
Consideration to be given to vulnerability and strength of the opening bid.
HEXAD generally insists that the overcalling hand should be as follows
a)   a bid of 2, 2,2 or 2 shows a minimum of 5 cards in the bid suit.
b)   a bid of 2NT shows either (i)  Clubs and Diamonds with 5/5 minimum
or  (ii)  Clubs & Hearts with 5/5 minimum
or  (ii)  Diamonds & Hearts with 5/5 minimum.
Partner will bid best minor. If (i) above overcaller will pass.
If (ii) above then if he bids Diamonds overcaller will bid Hearts
                                                           thus showing Clubs & Hearts
if (iii) above then if he bids Clubs overcaller will bid Diamonds
                                                           thus showing Diamonds & Hearts
c)   3, 3, 3 shows the suit bid & Spades with 5/5 minimum.
d)   A double is for penalties.
